Gun Dogs

Post hunting pictures of you and your Buckshot gundogs. To date we have not had a place to brag about your great hunting companions. Here is your chance to show off your dog.

Express training program

Now we offer a 2-3 month program for the hunter that just can't wait.

Your dog will:

Sit, Lay down, and Come when called.
Return game to hand.
Be steady to wing and shot.

Remember that 3 months of training will not give you a dog that will hunt with out help from you. All the basic tools will be there, but it takes a lot of real life hunting to make a great gun dog. No amount of training can make up for experience.

After having put your companion through the express program, you should shoot over him for a while and allow him to mature. After some real experience in the blind the Basic program, Advanced program, or Maintenance program will make more sense to him. These programs could have a waiting list. Particularly the maintenance program. Calling 6 months in advance may be necessary.

Basic Gundog Training

We offer a full gundog program that covers either waterfowl or upland hunting. Openings for this program are limited. This Basic program is 6-9 months long and was designed for serious hunters/hunt test enthusiasts.

Your dog will:

Sit, Lay down, and Come when called.
Return game to hand.
Heal off leash
Be steady to wing and shot.
Retrieve Simple multiples
Learn to run simple blind retrieves. Results may vary.

Advanced Gundog Training

We offer an advanced program that expands on the Basic gun dog program.

Advanced marking concepts
Strong Diversions/emphasis on control
Multiple dog hunting/Honoring
Advance blind concepts

Buckshot Retriever Training

Not all dogs completing the basic program will be suitable for the Advanced program. A dogs progress will be reassessed on a monthly basis until the desired level of training is achieved.

Maintenance Program

Is your dog out of shape or just a little rusty?

Exercise (Run, Swim)

Retrieve Live game

Clean up Obedience (Here, sit, down)

Sharpen up steadiness

Sharpen up blind retrieves (if blinds were taught previously)

Picabo Peaches

Started and finished gundogs are occasionally available, but sell very quickly. This can be a very smart option if you find a really good one. Puppies are fun, but there is always a risk that you won't get what you want. A started dog allows you test drive before you buy. The price is about the same as if you had the puppy trained yourself. You can actually get a lot more bang for your buck if you are lucky enough to find the right animal.
